Aerial Yoga | Wednesday | 6:30pm-7:30pm | HQ
________
Please Read:
Participation in this class requires the completion of our 2-Hour Aerial Basics Workshop – Taking Flight, or an established aerial yoga practice*
“Exploring new heights.”
It’s time to hang out my loves!
Our Aerial Yoga Workshops have been so popular, this practice is very much a permanent timetable fixture.
Aerial Yoga is the practice of traditional Hatha yoga with a soft fabric hammock suspended a few feet off the ground. The hammock is a prop like a strap or a block, intended to assist alignment, deepen awareness and provide immediate benefits of spinal decompression.
With the weight of the body partially or fully supported along with the help of gravity and the fabric, you can explore and possibly create space in your body as intended in a traditional yoga practice.
This class is fun and you will feel a true sense of community here, where you will lift one and others’ spirit, and occasional limb >grins<, and you will very quickly realise what exactly limits you in your life. It could be fear, a lack of confidence, embarrassment, whatever this may be, it will reveal itself, and we will recognise it and work through it together.
Thats when the magic happens.
Aerial Yoga Etiquette
Our silk hammocks are made from a delicate but durable fabric. Fabric care is very important to us. Section ‘What to avoid’ (below) provides details.
Ideally, phones should be left in your vehicle, if you do bring them into class, they must be switched off or placed on silent with NO vibrate.
Bags, coats and other items not required for class are best left in your vehicles. They will become trip hazards and its best to avoid obstacles. Only bring into studio what you require for class.
Shoes must be removed at the door and placed mindfully to avoid accidental slips, trips and falls.
We’re very chilled, but very punctual so you are asked to please arrive on time. I’m afraid we cannot accommodate late arrivals. Studio doors and entrance gates will be inaccessible after the class start time.
What to wear
For your own comfort, wear a top that covers your upper arms completely and avoid wearing loose shorts or very baggy clothing, clothing that covers your legs and upper arms is recommended. Robust, stretchy leggings are ideal – ones that stay put and don’t fall down. You will often be upside down, so supportive tops are recommended for your modesty.
Men if not in yoga meggings, please wear fitted shorts (like cycling shorts) not loose ones.
Yoga toe socks are ideal but optional – the kind with the sticky nubs at the base.
What to bring
Bottle of water to hydrate
A yoga mat
A journal/pen to reflect upon your experience (optional)
What to avoid
DO NOT use hand lotion or strong perfume or aftershave prior to class and make sure to remove jewellery, belts, clothing with zips, buttons or other features that could potentially snag the fabric.
Avoid wearing makeup, or false tan, which can blemish the fabric.
Please trim your finger and toenails, observe good personal hygiene and wear antiperspirant in consideration for the next person using the hammock.
Be extremely cautious if you have nail extensions, if they are too long or pointed, they too, can snag the fabric.
Avoid eating an hour before class, being mindful that you’ll be lying horizontally for 90 minutes in a hammock.
Long hair must be tied back, preferable plait or high ponytail/bun.
Please notify Yoga Junkie if you have any medical issues that prevent you from inverting (glaucoma, heart condition, or putting pressure on your skin etc.). If you have a spinal injury or medical condition, always check with your doctor first.
Avoid eating during the hour prior to class.
Class size is limited, and therefore, a 24hour cancellation policy must be applied: All students (including class pass holders) cancelling with less than 24 hours notice will be charged.
You must complete the online waiver prior to class, and read the detailed pre-class instructions above.
Please advise in advance whether you require additional, specific support tailored to your current needs.
*Participation will need to be assessed on demonstrating safe competencies. You will need to arrive 15 minutes prior to class for these to be viewed.
